My wife Ashley and I are realizing quickly that this whole being-pregnant thing comes with a lot of decisions. There are decisions we have to make now, like what kind of birth we’re going to shoot for, what doctors we need and what ice cream we’re going to stuff in our faces each night.
And there are decisions that we now know we have to make someday like what schools he’ll go to and what positions on various professional sports teams he’ll play.
But perhaps the coolest decision I’ve ever made is underway: what to name him.
We culled dozens of names out of a baby-names book loaned to us by a friend. (Yes, we’re also learning that people who have had kids before us like getting rid of stuff like baby-name books.)
We also gathered some special family names.
And we, tonight, cut the list down to 16 sweet names and ranked them as best we could for a bracket. It’s March after all, and brackets are in the brain.
New names will probably come up. Old ones may resurface. But this is the list as it stands.
We aren’t letting you, dear friends, choose the name. But we think you might notice some red flags we don’t. And this adds transparency to the process should the kid ever criticize our decision in the future. (Hey, don’t complain boy, I was transparent about the process! Not my fault you couldn’t find my tumblr blog in the womb.)
The winning name out of this bracket may not be the chosen one but it will certainly be a finalist.
